Women's Jeans by Fit: The DUER Performance Denim Guide

Find jeans that fit how we move

Quick answer: Pick a jean fit by how we'll spend the day. Straight leg is the most versatile everyday fit. Wide leg and barrel give the most room to move. Flare adds swing, and cargo adds storage. Then choose rise and inseam, and look for stretch denim with a gusset so the jeans move with us.

Most jean guides sort fits by body shape. We'd rather sort them by what we're doing: biking to work, scrambling a trail, catching a flight, or freezing at the bus stop. Every jean here is DUER performance denim, built with stretch, wicking fabric, and reinforced seams so it can keep up. Here's how to find the fit that does the job.

Straight leg jeans

The forever fit. A straight leg runs the same width from knee to hem, so it works with sneakers, boots, and everything between.

How to choose performance jeans

  • Rise: where the waistband sits. High rise sits at or above the navel and stays put when we bend, climb, or ride (Barrel, Flare, High Rise Straight, Cargo, Harbour, Wide Leg Crop). Mid rise sits a little lower for a classic feel (Meridian).
  • Inseam: where the hem lands. Full length runs 30–32" (Meridian, Commuter, Flare, High Rise Straight, Cargo). Cropped and ankle lengths run 24–28" (Wide Leg Crop, Harbour, Barrel). The Flare and High Rise Straight have a hem bar, so we can customize the length without a tailor.
  • Stretch and gusset: how the jean moves. Look for 2% Lycra® or elastane plus a gusset — an extra panel at the crotch — so we can lunge, step high, and sit cross-legged without strain. Triple-stitched seams keep everything together.
  • Fabric tech: what the denim does. Coolmax® polyester wicks sweat and regulates temperature. Silver ion and antimicrobial treatments fight odor, so we wash less often. DWR sheds light rain, and fleece lining adds warmth.
  • Sizing: DUER runs in jean sizes 25–31 (about 2–16). Harbour comes in XS–XL. Check the size chart on each product page before ordering.

Women's jeans FAQ

What are the different types of jeans for women?

The main fits are straight leg, wide leg, barrel, flare, relaxed, and cargo. Straight leg keeps one width from knee to hem. Wide leg opens up from the hip. Barrel curves out through the knee and narrows at the ankle. Flare widens below the knee. Cargo adds utility pockets.

What are performance jeans?

Performance jeans look like classic denim but are built to move. DUER blends cotton with Coolmax® polyester and Lycra®, so the fabric stretches, wicks sweat, and keeps its shape. Many styles add a gusset, triple-stitched seams, and odor-fighting treatments, so they handle commutes, travel, and trails.

What is the most versatile jean fit?

Straight leg. It works with sneakers, boots, and sandals, dresses up or down, and suits nearly any activity. For one pair that does it all, the Meridian Jeans pair a classic straight leg with wicking, high-stretch denim and a hidden gusset.

Can you hike in jeans?

Classic cotton jeans get heavy and cold when wet, so they're a poor pick for long or rainy hikes. Performance denim does better on short hikes and scrambles thanks to stretch, wicking, and a gusset. For wet weather or big days, we still reach for dedicated hiking pants.

What's the difference between barrel and wide leg jeans?

Wide leg jeans flare out from the hip and stay wide to the hem. Barrel jeans are roomy through the hip and thigh, curve out at the knee, and taper back in at the ankle. Barrel reads more utility; wide leg feels breezier.

Are fleece-lined jeans warm enough for winter?

Yes, for most everyday cold. The Defroster Fleece Lined Jeans have fleece inside and a water-repelling face in a single layer, so we skip tights underneath. For long hours in deep cold or snow, layer a base layer or switch to a softshell pant.

How should performance jeans fit?

They should sit at the rise we like without gapping, let us squat and step high without pulling, and hit at our chosen length. Stretch denim relaxes a bit with wear, so a snug but comfortable fit in the waist is the goal. Check DUER's size chart before ordering.

Are DUER jeans worth the money?

They're built to replace several pairs: stretchy enough for movement, tough enough for climbing, and polished enough for work. Triple-stitched seams, reinforced pockets, and odor-fighting fabric mean more wears between washes. And every Title Nine order comes with a 60-day return window.
