Our Values In Action

We believe a fit woman is fit for everything. Fit to run, fit to lead, fit to win. But we know there’s a reason why they say that talk is cheap, so we’re putting our money where our mouths are. In the end, we’ve found that the women we meet and the lives we affect do so much more to inspire us than we could possibly do for them. But we’ll keep trying.

Starting Block Grants

Starting Block Grants

What was your starting block? Maybe it was a pact with a friend to get in shape, a mom who took you to softball practice every day, or a coach who saw more in you than you saw in yourself. Whatever it was, one thing's for sure: every one of us had a jumping off point – a person or an event that vaulted us into our love for sports and fitness.

Title Nine's Starting Block grants are our way of creating starting blocks for at-risk girls in our communities. We provide financial or in-kind donations for small, grassroots organizations who are giving girls the tools they need to get off the sidelines and into the game.

Could a Starting Block grant make a difference for the girls you work with? Does an underserved team you coach or know of need new sports bras to help girls get involved and stay involved in sports? Know of a girls’ locker room or after school program that could use some inspirational images of real, active, women? Check out our application guidelines below.

Starting Block Grant Applications

Starting Block Grants assist fledgling, grassroots organizations who are helping girls in underserved communities. We are looking for programs that are both passionate about getting girls involved in sports and fitness, and creative about doing a lot with a little. If you are a 501(c)3 with a great idea for how to get girls off the sidelines and into the game, we want to hear from you.

Bra Brigade

Bra Brigade

Anyone who wears a sports bra understands what a huge difference it can make. Unfortunately, a lot of girls don’t have the resources needed to get the right bras for their sport. Enter the Bra Brigade, which (literally!) supports girls by providing them with sports bras from Title Nine. Quality bras mean more than just comfort: they mean better focus and performance, eyes on the ball, and minds in the game. If you are a 501(c)3 organization or team in an underserved community comprised of at least 40% girls, let us know how the Bra Brigade can help you.

Poster Girls

Maybe you've got a classroom, a gym, or a weight room that could use a few more images of women - the clothed and competent kind - on the walls. Our Poster Girl program was created to get the past season’s retail posters out of our stores and into spaces where they can inspire the next generation of women athletes.

As you look through our catalog, or browse our website or retail stores, chances are you'll notice our "model" photography is markedly different. We use shots of real women, real bodies in motion, real athletes in action. Our posters have found homes in many schools and rec centers all across the country. These are our kind of Poster Girls, and we'd love to share them with you.

Albany Berkeley Girls Softball League

Albany Berkeley Girls Softball League – Starting Block Grant Recipient

The ABGSL plays just a softball's throw away from Title Nine headquarters, and these girls have got some game! ABGSL makes sure that every girl gets a chance to play, no bench warming here. At the same time, coaches focus on disciplined learning so that everyone learns to play well. Once they've mastered the basics, any girl who wants to prepare for high school or more competitive softball can choose to specialize in several positions. Now that's serious fun.

Lane Middle School Girls on the Run – Bra Brigade Recipient

Lane Middle School counselor Danelle Chapman shared with us the many challenges her Portland, Oregon, students face: “poverty, violence, mental illness, homelessness, and the stigma of being a 'poor school' in a neglected neighborhood." Like most kids, though, the girls at LMS are resilient and just need a boost to start them on healthy, active lifestyles.

Danelle partnered with Girls on the Run, a local program that trains third through fifth graders for long-distance runs, through "self-esteem enhancing, uplifting workouts." Together, Lane and GOTR provide a free program encouraging fitness and wellness among middle school girls. Our Bra Brigade donation helped these girls, “feel confident and comfortable as they train[ed] for a 5K road race."

Meet the girls (and their grown-ups) at http://www.pps.k12.or.us/schools/lane/160.htm and http://www.girlsontherunpdx.org.
